A Rhapsody of the Jewels of "Sayuri" at Sarwaa on 7th and 8th April, 2013

Fashion is always temperamental but style is always personal. Last weekend at Sarwaa, we got a little taste of how fashion meets style through the work of an impeccable jewellry designer named Divya Narasimhan. Her interest and flair for expression through jewellry was nurtured as she gained an education at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Chennai. She also continues to nurture budding designers as well. Over the years, she has built a brand name of her own called Sayuri. Her collections are most often inspired by the materials she works with, the people that she meets or the places that she goes to. Divya’s keen eye for patterns, texture and colour is most evident in her pieces.

Last year, she graced Sarwaa’s display shelves with her Raja Ravi Varma painting inspired pieces. This year, it’s been a road in another direction of wire knits, leather and beads in various elegant and whimsical combinations presented through her two collections Rhapsody and Alambre. Her slogan emphasizes her vision for her brand, ‘Designs that please the Soul’. For those who try on her jewellery are left with an impression of curiosity, intrigue and sense of calm.
Divya did not stop with just the exhibits this time around. Her expertise was imparted in the form of Sarwaa’s first ever jewellery making workshops. One day, Two Sessions, Beads, Strings, Loops and Wire brought two groups of individuals from different ages and different backgrounds together in a learning environment. Divya’s enthusiasm and passion for her medium of expression was abundant.

Mural painting on bamboo @ Sarwaa

Five basic colors used in mural painting are white, yellow, red, green and black. Large bamboo pieces are treated and polished with sandpaper. Then it is outlined and filled with colors. They can be used as wall hangings and if you are creative enough, can be made as a lampshade too. It is a perfect gift to take home from Kerala..

New terracotta jewellry collection at Sarwaa

Sarwaa goes earthy..

Terracotta or "baked earth" is a type of earthenware which is a clay-based unglazed or glazed ceramic, where the fired body is porous. (courtesy Wikipedia). The clay is molded and then baked in a kin and later painted..Making of this kind of jewelry is time consuming as the clay has to be hand molded  then sun dried (drying time depends on the weather too), baked and then hand painted..It is quite popular now a days because of the range of colors that one can paint on it and and also because of its ethnic look..They are Eco friendly, affordable and a good alternative to artificial jewelry...Sarwaa is proud to offer our latest collection of terracotta jewelry to you..pls indulge yourself...

Chillaxing with a mocha at cafe sarwaa

Cafe Sarwaa is the latest addition to enhance the shopping experience at Sarwaa. This Spanish eatery set in a beautiful ambience has bought in a new culinary aspect to the city for food lovers. The Chef, George who runs the restaurant has also previously run a restaurant in Barcelona and thus the authentic flavor has been honed in the shores of Spain. The Cafe is set in an eco-friendly bamboo environment and the unique roof done with bamboo shingles is rather innovative. A waterbody running through the Cafe with its bamboo and a shady tree providing a canopy on the open side of the Cafe add to the ambience along with the bluish green walls and the yellow oxide floor.

The menu offers authentic Spanish fare which includes tapas, salads, pastas, bocadillos (Spanish version of sandwiches), desserts like brownies and chocolate chip cookies and for quenching your thirst there is the interestingly different tamarind based fizzes as well as gooseberry based ones. The Lavazza Coffee is aromatic and tasty and provides a haven for Coffee connoisseurs. On fridays, saturdays and Sundays there would be a barbecue and that would be a first in the city too. Needless to say the best part of the experience would be browsing through the Sarwaa boutique's funky and contemporary curios, traditionally crafted home decor accessories which you can gift to your dear ones, sampling the stylish lingerie or pampering yourself with the latest in jewelry be it terra-cotta, stone or hand painted murals before or after your sumptuous meal!

Guess its time to indulge in the Sarwaa experience.

Mermaid Bakes @ Sarwaa

Hi! I'm Arielle and Mermaid Bakes is my abode of sweet things with a desirable twist. For years, my passion has been food and that steered me towards an education in hotel management. The corporate life came soon after, but it wasn't long before I found myself at home enveloped in sharing my love for the French language and it's beauty. But the cycle came around full circle, leading me back to my love of food and most importantly being able to share that love.
Mermaid Bakes has now been operational out of my home for over a year now. Muffins were our pioneering delight but turning flavour and textural dreams into reality is our vice. It has always been about how to bring people together over food. The start of any great relationship happens over food.
Mermaid Bakes' 4th Bake Sale at Sarwaa took on a new set of flavour profiles from the dream factory of this Mermaid and her fellow merfolk. Veering away from the already intriguing Lime Cupcakes (whose frosting changes at each sale!!!) to Stewed Apple Tarts to the apprehension insitigating Chocolate Chilli Muffins, Saturday's sale came with a bold Strawberry Cheesecake, Spiced Orange Muffin, Lemon Tart, Chocolate Chili Cookie and a Rich Dark Chocolate Velvetine Cupcake.
Over the course of the last year, Tigi and her venture, Sarwaa have been instrumental in creating a platform that encourages young entrepreneurs to express themselves and most of all, in developing a sense of community and innovation.
